The VEWL holds a two day tournament at the end of each year for our Varsity wrestlers. The dates for this years tournament will be Saturday, 02/07/2009 and Sunday, 02/08/2009 at TBD. The first day of the tournament will determine the 12 wrestlers that will carry on into the second day of the tournament. The first day of the tournament we take the 16 teams from our Southeast and Northeast divisions and put them into a 16 man bracket and advance the top 6 wrestlers to Day 2. We also take our 16 teams from the Southwest and Northwest division and do the same thing. These 12 wrestlers will make up our Day 2 Championship 12 man bracket and do battle for the top 8 spots in each weight class. By splitting the tournament out in such a way, we feel we give every wrestler the opportunity to grab their GOLD medal in each weight class. As we go into the 2nd day of the tournament, all records and performances through the year are erased and you start a new tournament with a fresh 0-0 record. The seeding for the second day is determined by your finishing position from the first day. With eight places being awarded, every wrestler has an opportunity at placing.
